carbon-failure

Hello again!  Thank you for visiting the Rush Foot Blog.  I wanted to share with you some of my experiences in the prosthetic world, I must say, I have never encountered a market (much less a medical device market) where product failure is so anticipated.

As I visit prosthetists across the country, I am continually amazed by the multitude of stories  from practitioners about the failure of carbon fiber feet.

This leads to the following:

  • Amputees
    • Frustrated and hopefully not injured
    • Scheduling of a return visit to prosthetist, not always during office hours
    • Wearing a loaner foot that is not necessarily selected for the amputee’s individual needs
    • Scheduling a return visit to prosthetist
    • Fitting the new product at the prosthetist office
    • Time away from work and family for 2 office visits

  • Prosthetist
    • Scheduling an emergency return visit
    • Locating a loaner foot in shop
    • Returning the original foot to the manufacturer (if within warranty period)
    • Obtaining a replacement foot from the manufacturer
    • Scheduling the amputee to return
    • Fitting and adjusting the new product
    • Not being able to bill a payer for any of these activities

Please let us know your thoughts and experiences regarding your experiences with prosthetic feet.  Also, please follow RUSH Foot® @rushfoot and like us on Facebook!
